Singles Awareness Day, aka SAD, is arriving soon, on the 14th. You might know SAD as “Valentine’s Day” if you have a significant other.
In class, my teacher gave a presentation about Valentine’s Day and the different types of gifts you could give your significant other. He mentioned that an experience is a better gift because it is more memorable. Then he talked about his wife and told us cutesy stories.
As a single person, I don’t really mind Valentine’s Day. No, really, I don’t. It’s a sweet, usually sappy day where couples hang out together to celebrate their love for each other. It’s usually filled with the 3 C’s: Chocolate, Cards, and Compliments.
I think it’s cool that couples will go over the top to show their appreciation for one another on this particular day. And then after the 14th, they’ll treat each other like any other normal day. And it’s after the 14th where I personally get to appreciate Valentine’s Day, because…. it’s 50% off chocolate! I think that if I ever get a boyfriend, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day one week after, so that we can take advantage of the discounted chocolate and goods.
Just kidding. (Well, not really.)
Valentine’s Day is not only for couples. The day is meant to be filled with love and appreciation. You don’t need to be in a relationship to be able to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Heck, you can spend the day appreciating your pet dog, or you could spend the day pampering yourself. Everyone needs some me love.
Quite simply, Valentine’s Day is just a day where going over-the-top to show your love is okay. But feeling awkward on this day is okay too. And so is waiting for Valentine’s to pass so that you can buy discounted chocolate.
Now I’m going to insert a bunch of Valentine’s Day cards that I found on tumblr because they’re funny and cute. Sorry not sorry.
